** THIS WEEKEND IS A GO!! **

Unfortunately, Ken and Chris will be unable to attend this weekend's event, but they are already preparing for the traditional 4th of July fruit-launching cookout, our next likely meeting. All are strongly encouraged to clear their schedules now. You won't want to miss it. Continue to check this site for more time specific updates for this weekend. We still need input on the beerfest location and format as well as movie votes from a few people. Check appropriate sections for more information. Other suggestions are always welcome as well.

3:00 PM ETA - Arrival in the Twin Cities (nonresidents)

Bill, Ruth, Craig, and Jeri are planning on arriving in the Twin Cites and meeting at the big Best Buy store on 494 (between the MOA and 35W) at 3:00 PM. All who are free at this time are invited to meet there as well. This should give "us rural folks" a chance to adjust to big city life before the weekend begins.

5:30 PM - Dave & Kay

At 5:30 PM Bill & Ruth (and possibly Craig & Jeri, depending on the Bernard/Merideth schedule, which at this time is unknown to me) will stop by Dave and Kay's to drop stuff off, greet the Iguanas, check out the always entertaining action figure display, and add Dave and Kay to our beer-swillin' crew. Ahrrr matey! Sorry, slipped into Pirate there for a minute.

7:00 PM - Dinner at the Gasthof zur Gemutlichkeit

At Jim Bernard's suggestion, dinner Friday night would be at the Gasthof zur Gemutlichkeit. Jim spoke highly of his dining there and seemed anxious to share the Gasthof experience with others. We may also be able to begin our beer tasting with samples from the Gasthof's large beer selection. Just to get warmed up for Saturday night, of course. Dave has made a tentative reservation at the Gasthof for 7:00 PM, just to make sure we'll have a spot. This can doubtless be adjusted if necessary. To read a review of an evening at the Gasthof zur Gemutlichkeit, click on the big ol' German Sausage. No, really. That's what it is.

Time: TBA (Afternoon) - Zardoz & Another Quality Video

"Zardoz speaks to you ... his chosen ones." - Does this sound disturbingly like Patrick Stewart? Is it just me?

It has been suggested that Saturday afternoon might include the viewing of the vintage Sean Connery vehicle Zardoz along with another rental. Please vote to help us select this second rental. It has also been suggested that we could sample some beer during these movies. I'm not sure if that suggestion stems from just wanting to drink beer or suspecting that one will need a beer or two to make it through our rental selections. Also please keep in mind that, contrary to popular belief, it is not necessary to dress as your favorite Zardoz character when watching the film. Please leave the Zardoz outfits at home.

Time: TBA (Evening) - "Beer Is Your Friend" Beerfest

Due to lazy City Pages employees, this year's spring City Pages Beer Tasting Festival will happen in the fall. As a result, the foundation is being laid for the Twin Cities first annual spring "Beer Is Your Friend" Beer Tasting Festival. Click on the "Beer Is Your Friend" logo for more information.

Time: TBA (Morning) - Bagels

How does one end a weekend of German food, cult films, and beer ? Let's say "Auf Wiedersehen" with a lighter meal at one of the Twin Cities' fine bagel establishments. Click on the logos for sample menus. Sadly, none of these menus contain beer as far as I can tell. That might be a plus by Sunday morning, however.

Additional suggestions for free times not covered in the itinerary are also welcome. I've heard suggestions such as the "Lonely Mountain Game," pinball/video gaming, and drinking beer mentioned. Keep in mind that this is only a work in progress and is in need of much revision. Email me at wpaarman@d.umn.edu with your ideas.
