BIYF
Festival - "Breaking
Winter's Tyranny Since 1998"

May 26, 2004
It sounds like Trogdor, though not Trogdor's
Wife, will be joining the migration north for BIYF
2004. I believe Trogdor is planning on traveling with
the second wave of the IA invasion force (ETA 10:00 PM Friday evening)
and staying
at the Bricker/Malla (Bricka? Maller?)
residence.

Schedule page is updated to reflect multiple recent posts
and emails. Be sure to check your email for Bricker's beer
query.
May 21, 2004
Schedule page is updated to reflect Rollerballer's
most recent post.
Also, Rollerballer's Pop sends this collection
of beer wisdom to the Collective. Presented in a retro "BIYF
1998" style
web page.
ZootDaze reluctantly sends his regrets
re: the 2004 Festival, but there is still a slim/outside chance that
he may
be nearby for some of the Sunday activities (possibly with ZootDaze's
Brother in tow). I'll be leaving him contact information,
just in case.
May 20, 2004
Schedule page is updated to reflect Sandman's
most recent post.
May 19, 2004
Added a shortcut link to this page in the site header (waving
"BIYF 2004" flag) and also a second "Zardoz Speaks" sound file throughout
the site, credit Rollerballer. I've told him that probably
makes him eligible for the Mouth of Zardoz job,
if he's interested. I haven't heard back on that, though.

Starbuck gives the Collective this
link reflecting on the nature of true evil. On a related
note, I'd like to mention that I do have Kingdom of the Spiders and
several SSSes (Shatner Short Subjects) available for
this year's Festival. Rumors are also floating around about a true
Shatner
Classic that
may show up on Memorial Day weekend ...
May 16, 2004
I updated the schedule page based on
Bricker's 5/15
posting and my
response. It looks like Festival HQ is at the ready. Drink Beer!
May 15, 2004
I updated this page and added the schedule page linked
on the graphic above. If I'm clear on things as they stand right now,
we're
still on for Memorial Day weekend and everyone is confirmed (at least
anecdotally) except for
Trogdor and Trogdor's Wife. Please
correct me soon if I am wrong! That bumps our numbers to ten.
I need to
check with and formally invite ZootDaze to see if
he's interested in visiting the Cities and stopping by the Festival
that weekend. He's
had a standing invite to these kind of events over the past few
years, but it wouldn't kill me to actually ask him. I suppose. I hope
not, anyway.
Right now, the schedule pretty much is just for NotOfThisEarth and me, but I'll fill in your information as soon as you let the Collective
know what your plans are. (i.e. More details on people, times, places,
and things will follow as they become
available.)

The first of the merchandise I ordered from the BIYF store
has arrived. Pretty sweet, really. The stein, Paarlance coffee mug, flying
disk, and stickers can be vouched for and given "thumbs up".
Love that Paarlance mug. I'll have to order another one of those for
me, as that
one was "technically"
for Ruth.

In other news, Blendergirl confirms she
and Sandman are in for '04. May 11, 2004
Sandman responds to The Bricker's request
confirming he and Blendergirl will attend the BIYF 2004 Memorial
Day weekend festivities. Other weekends are not an option for them.
Tom (a.k.a. Starbuck) granted full Member
of The Collective status following minor email hazing.
May 9, 2004
The Bricker posts a "sound off and be
counted" post here at
BIYF.com wondering who's coming and if another weekend would work better
than Memorial Day for some. Zardoz and NotOfThisEarth are
flexible regarding the choice of weekend.
May 6, 2004
Tom B. petitions for full
member status with The Collective citing previous movie
viewing/suffering at past Festivals.
May 3, 2004
BIYF 2004 is less than a month away and despite everything
that's going on here at BIYF.com, you may have noticed a distinct lack
of anything new regarding it. Honestly, it's been a tough one to start.
I'd
been thinking we'd go with "BIYF 1993: Best BIYF Ever" as
a theme this year in honor of Craig's "closing ceremonies" speech
of last year outside Khan's, but that's a lot of pressure for one little
BIYF festival to live up to. A recipe for disaster, really. It sets
the bar too high and almost assuredly dooms it from the outset.
As such,
I propose a new theme for 2004:

Reconstruction? That's right, I'm proposing that this be
a rebuilding year for the BIYF Team just as it's been for the BIYF
website. Besides, it's got kind of a "ST-TNG
Feature Film" feel to it, don'tcha think?
It seems like everyone
has more life-stuff than ever going on this year. Family, health,
shelter, business travel, financial security...
No, nothing
trivial for the Collective this year. And trivial is what a
lot of the BIYF Festival has always been by design: Low-stakes activities
strung
together
to provide an opportunity for some friends to get together.
No pressures. No unreasonable expectations. Just a chance to celebrate
the breaking of Winter's tyranny in good company. Die Winter!
If you look around the new site, you'll notice
that pretty much everything that's available is provided to be a
no-pressure amusement for me and people
that I like. No one is required to commit anything (time,
money, creativity)
here, but you can if you choose to do so and it makes
my day when you can. It delights me no end to see a new post
on the
site or
someone wearing their BIYF shirts (I coulda said
thongs...), but, realistically, I'm just as pleased
to get an
email, phone call, or other communication.
I see the festival
in the same way. I have things I like to do, but I'll be just as happy
about everything as long
as I
at least
get
to see some
of my friends in a social setting this spring. My friends
are part of my important life-stuff and the festival
is just a
means to
that end.
Yes, I really am that easily amused.
All of that being
said, there has actually been a little talk about what could happen
this year. I can't tell
you much for
certain,
but I can
tell you that Ruth and I will be heading up to the
Twin Cities for Memorial Day weekend. We'll be taking off
either Thursday
and Friday
morning of
that week and heading back late Sunday or Monday sometime.
We don't have any specific plans about where we'll
be staying or what we'll
be doing,
but we'd like to get together with anyone that's available.
We're
not going to assume anything given all of the big stuff going on in
people's lives right now. I'm
planning
on bringing
a couple
movies and some beer along, just in case, though.
We're pretty used to "rolling
with the punches" in regards to everyone else's
schedules, so let the Collective know what's happening
with you and we'll
adjust our schedule
and post updates here.
