Just one more thing...

Posted by Starbuck on Fri, Jan 1st 2010, 11:24 am

. As we ring out the 'Aughts, it has come to my attention there is one level of indulgence and culinary depravity that - to my knowledge- the collective has never undertaken: the Turducken.

But now it seems that even this is not the top/bottom of the heap. What more can a person do, you ask? How much more decadence can one dish take?

Simple- wrap it in bacon. Or to be more precise: stuff that Turducken inside a boneless pig! Viola: Fowl De Cochon!

Only problem I can see- feeds 50-60 folks. Better get out the address book for this one!

Bacon Science

Posted by Starbuck on Fri, Apr 17th 2009, 7:55 am

. With all due respect to Sandman's prodigious Q skills- recent RibDependance events have been lacking that element of "stupid things to do after a few beers that involve fire".

In the spirit of both rectifying that, and keeping the Marion Fire Department on their toes I proudly present: The Bacon Thermic Lance (Ok- it's prosciutto, but hey- it's fatty pork slices).

And yes- it can actually cut steel.

Sorry, Phoeberella, but veggies just don't make the cut here.

Mmmmm....bacon

Posted by Starbuck on Thu, Jan 29th 2009, 12:15 pm

. If its worth doing, it's worth overdoing, right?

I present The Bacon Explosion!

*** This link is having issues- check out This link for photos and a description of the "item" in question.

2 pounds of bacon woven through 2 pounds of sausage, then smoked.

It's the last meal you'll ever eat.

Fun For The Whole Family

Posted by Zardoz on Sun, Jul 2nd 2006, 12:30 pm

. Here's a Rib Dependence do-it-yourself project:

Homemade Sparklers

Nothing could possibly go wrong with this. Sorry, I couldn't find a "Homemade Roman Candle" link for us. Maybe next year...

USA! USA! USA!

More Blasts from the Past

Posted by Zardoz on Wed, Jul 13th 2005, 2:52 pm

. Mostly just the recent past, though. A Rib Dependence area has been added to the main BIYF site under Activities. Right now it's mainly just a collection of links to RD stuff, but be sure to check out the Photo Archive & Slideshow.

If you've got some RD goodness to add to the Archives, just send it to Zardoz for inclusion. Drink Beer!

You people have to geek up everything

Posted by Starbuck on Tue, Jul 5th 2005, 9:58 am

. DISCLAIMER: this post is in no way intended as an editorial comment on Rib Dependance. Ken is obviously a skilled craftsman who has spent years perfecting his art. This level of automation could only detract from the experience.

But building your own computer controlled smoker- that's pretty geek!

RD On Your Computer

Posted by Zardoz on Wed, Jun 29th 2005, 5:43 pm

. That's right, you can prepare for Rib Dependence 2005 by downloading a couple rapidly constructed images for your desktop. They'd be much cooler if I wasn't locked in my basement trying to finish the District Print Calendar, but that's how it goes. You can only accomplish so much during a five-minute sanity break...

Choose from either a Logo or Ken Derradil design. Both are only available in 1024x768.

If that doesn't make you feel patriotic enough, open this link in a new window and push the blue button. Push the red button when you've had sufficient patriotic infusion. Give it some time to load. It's not really worth the wait, but perhaps someday when I actually spend some more time on it...

Freedom!

Posted by Zardoz on Wed, Jun 15th 2005, 9:23 pm

. It's no Rib Dependence.
It's no Minnesota State Fair.

It is, however, local to CR and starts in about a week. It's also another excuse to eat ribs and drink beer (like you need an excuse). Find out more at the site linked below.

We are a go for Rib Dependence.

Posted by Sandman on Tue, Jun 14th 2005, 9:13 am

. I am sorry for leaving everyone hanging regarding our annual party. We were very saddened by the idea of having to cancel this year and couldn't bring our selves to ask for money to offset the expense. As we were discussing it last night sure there was alot of talk about money and ribs. But what we just couldn't envision giving up was a day with our truest friends.

So we have found a way to throw a party without being fiscally irrisposible (that means I'm NOT writing bad checks for beer money, Bricker). We are going to change the format a little.

Rib-Dependence will be Ribless this year. We will provide the grills and the grilling but bring your own meat, burgers, brats, hot dogs, steaks, chops, chicken, whatever and we will cook it up for you. In addition to the meat, or insert favorite meat substitute, please bring a side to share, and your faovrite beverage, any chairs or placesettings would also be helpful.

Salmon to Be Added to Updated Logo

Posted by Zardoz on Tue, Jan 18th 2005, 10:46 am

. The 2005 RD logo will include a salmon leaping over the cow should Phoebe choose to attend.
